Tummy tuck surgery is a cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance of flabby, stretched-out abdominal muscles and skin. The tummy tuck is commonly used to help improve appearance, especially after massive weight gain and loss. Excessive fatty tissue and loose skin are removed from the middle and lower sections of the abdomen and the muscles may be tightened. A less complex procedure is called a "mini tummy tuck," or a partial abdominoplasty. In many cases, a liposuction procedure is combined with a tummy tuck to enhance the final result. It may take weeks or months to completely heal, and scars may appear to get worse for the first four to six months following the procedure.
